Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology
(Online and In-class) 60 hours

This course permits the student to acquire a basic medical terminology vocabulary related to body systems necessary to communicate information effectively and comfortably in a medical office or hospital environment. You will learn and practice the principles of how medical words are formed, including the basic rules of building medical words, identifying suffixes, prefixes, and combining forms related to the structures and functions of the associated systems of the body. This is an intensive course, requiring approximately 8 hours of homework per week. Statement of Course Completion awarded on successful completion.

This course is a prerequisite for the Medical Office Assistant program, the Hospital Unit Coordinator program, and the Medical Device Reprocessing program (formerly called the Sterile Supply Technician program). Successful students will be prepared to write the VIHA (Vancouver Island Health Authority) Medical Terminology exam.
