The program starts on September 3, 2019 and applications with be accepted until August 25 or when the program is full whichever comes first.

Learn from instructors who care about your success, and prepare for a growing number of positions in the job market. Generous bursaries of up to $5,000 are available to qualified applicants who are either already working in childcare settings, or those who wish to begin work in this career.

The Program

The Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) program provides students with the knowledge and skills to work with young children and their families in licensed child care settings. Students progress through a series of courses and practica designed to integrate theoretical learning, self awareness, and practical experience in becoming an Early Childhood Educator. This program is full time with some part-time and online options. Successful students will earn Vancouver Island University’s (VIU’s) Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care. The ECEC certificate is built on a strengths based model that honors the skills, abilities and perspectives of the diverse students enrolled in the program. Working closely with Early Childhood faculty, the Aboriginal Early Childhood Development Chair at VIU Is committed to enhancing the local and cultural relevance of education for Aboriginal early childhood practitioners.
