This program provides advanced-level training for people who already lead or who aspire to lead in the community living, inclusive education, disability, and disability related sectors.

You will learn to effectively advocate for yourself, others, and for groups.

Change Making
Graduates will have the skills and experience to generate positive social change in their neighborhoods, organizations, and communities.

Life Long Learning
This unique program is accessible to people throughout BC and across Canada. Courses are primarily online with a one-week residency requirement at the beautiful Powell River Outdoor Learning Center. 

Attaining a Degree
The program is a pathway to a variety of degree programs at Vancouver Island University and other post secondary institutions.

Semester One - with Residency

LDS 200  Citizenship and Human Rights
LDS210 Leadership, Advocacy, and Social Policy
LDS 220 Action Research and Learning in Community
University Level English minimum C grade
One of: Psychology 111, 112, 131, Sociology 111, or Management 192

Semester Two

LDS 230 Leadership and Disability Studies Practicum
LDS 250 Community Development
One of: Psychology 112, 122, 132,  Sociology 112 or Management 292

TOTAL: 30 credits

Electives provide students with the opportunity to tailor their program to meet their academic and career aspirations. All electives must be 3 credits. If a student wishes to take an elective that is not on this list, he/she should consult with the program chair.
SOCW 200A  Introduction to Social Work Practice
SOCW 200B Introduction to Social Welfare in Canada
Any course from the Arts and Humanities
Any course from the Social Sciences
Any Math, Science, or Canadian Studies course that meets the Elementary Teaching Prerequisites (Kindergarten to grade 7)
Any one of ACCT 100 Financial Accounting I, ECON 100 Intro to Economics, FNCE 130 Intro to Finance, MARK 160 Intro to Marketing.
