How to Save Big on Microsoft Office 2010!

As a student registered in a related program in a public post-secondary university, you are eligible for student prices on software.

If you are only interested in Microsoft Office, there is a good deal for students to purchase MS Office Professional Academic 2010 for $89 CAD plus tax (current suggested retail price is $499.99 plus tax). This represents a savings of $410.99!

MS Office Professional Academic 2010 includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access.

In order to take advantage of this offer:

  1. Register for a course at Vancouver Island University (registration for Microsoft Office Skills training courses is available from: http://pr.viu.ca/most/registration.asp)
  2. Once you have your VIU student # (which will be on your registration receipt), sign into your VIU student record from: https://records.viu.ca/reg/htbin/weblogin
  3. Make sure that the address on your student record includes an email address. To check, or to update your email address on your student record, click on the Change Address link along the left-hand side of the web page; if you have to enter your email address, scroll down and click on the Submit New Address button at the bottom of the screen to save it
  4. Click on the Create VIU Email Address link along the left-hand side of the page
  5. Select one of the email address suggestions, or enter your preferred email address. The last part of your VIU email address will be @stumail.viu.ca
  6. Click on the Request VIU Virtual Email Address button at bottom
  7. Now go to: http://www.microsoft.com/student/office/en-ca/default.aspx
  8. Click on the Buy Now button
  9. Enter the xxxxxx@stumail.viu.ca email address that you just created
  10. Re-enter the xxxxxx@stumail.viu.ca email address to confirm
  11. Click on the Submit button
  12. You will be asked to go to your email inbox to open the email from Microsoft
  13. Go to your email address (not the xxxxxx@stumail.viu.ca email address, but your real email address that is in your VIU Address)
  14. Open the email from Microsoft (it should arrive in your inbox within a few minutes)
  15. Click on the link in the email from Microsoft, then follow instructions to add the software to your shopping cart and check out.
  16. We recommend purchasing a backup copy of the software in case you need to re-install the software at some point in future (even if you are downloading it from the web and installing it now)…a backup DVD will be mailed to you for only $12 if you add this to your shopping cart.
  17. Once you have checked out, make sure that you record the serial number for the software (a confirmation email will be sent to you with the serial number – keep it in a safe place and record the serial number somewhere in case you lose your email).
