Introduction to Computers

For those who are comfortable working with computers but have little experience and want to learn more. A non-technical course delivered at a quicker pace, it includes an introduction to comptuer hardware, various MS Office applications, the Internet, file management, creating, saving, opening, and printing files. No textbook required.

Computer Tools

Learn about the use of computer tools in a business or office environment - from word processing to desktop publishing to operating systems and basics of using a network. You will not be expected to become experts in these areas, but should be able to evaluate tools and understand compatibility issues, and learn to choose and use the appropriate software tool for the job. No textbook required.

Course will cover:

  1. Introduction to Word & overview of MS Publisher & Adobe InDesign
  2. Information on platforms, operating systems, networks, & peripherals; how they work & the advantages and disadvantages of various types
  3. Spreadsheets & database overview
  4. Brief introduction to MS Expression Web and Dreamweaver

Using this effective and popular word processing program, learn the fundamental concepts and techniques of word processing, including the ability to create, edit, print, and manage your documents. Focus will be on working with text, learning how to navigate within a document, character and paragraph formatting, and managing files. Textbook required.

Create Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic files, a format that can be viewed and printed across a wide range of computer platforms. Topics include: navigating PDF files; creating and modifying PDF files, introduction to interactive PDF forms; preparing and printing PDF files. Textbook required.

In this course, you will learn about the basics of spreadsheets--what they're used for and how they work. You will create worksheets for various purposes and learn to manage spreadsheet files. Hands-on time will be spent on formatting worksheets, page setup and printing, and working with formulas and functions. Textbook required.

This course will teach you how to design a newsletter, prepare a tri-fold brochure for outside printing, and create business forms and tables. Textbook required.
